London Calling

Our three month French adventure came to an end too quickly. I didn’t expect that the respite the French wine country provided would touch my soul so deeply. Despite frustrations with my unique pronunciations of the French language, I became more comfortable every day with the challenge of getting it somewhat understandable. One small brave challenge every day.

As we passed through London, we were surprisingly overwhelmed by the big city. We had become country mice. While grateful to easily communicate again, I also lamented the quiet that comes with not understanding any of the conversations around me.

And of course we sought out and gorged on Asian food! Woop woop! When in the Loire, eat all the baguettes, croissants, galettes, gateau, and canard, boef, poulet in delicious savory sauces accompanied by arguably the best wines in the world. When in London, eat everything else!

The Borough Market is a must-see stop. We were thrilled to discover Mei Mei, owned and operated by Chef Liz. Singaporean food is a family favorite, and Chef Liz dished it up with rich flavors, exquisite blends of spice, heat, and sweet, and perfectly cooked Hainanese chicken rice and Nasi Lemak. SUPER YUM! Sitting at her counter, we watched her passion for food demonstrated in every move she made. Completely in her element, it was a joy to watch her cook. We could taste the care she takes with the flavor composition of each dish. We were so happy that she sells her delicious sauces to take home, which we happily did! Yes please thank you!
